Simple Kid at King’s College Jan 2007

Simple Kid, Wed, 24 Jan 2007 10:47:01, King’s College, London, The Event on Last.fm.

From a Gig Review post:
First off I didn’t want to go to this. Sarah, Shonagh and Alex did so I said I’d tag along.

Venue was a nice little place with a great balcony area where we set ourselves up. The support acts started me worrying the first one was a guy, a guitar and his neuroses, a little fucked up. Then the next lot were atrocious, they were alt-country of the worst kind. Singer was a lady who sounded middle class English when she spoke but sang like someone who live in Tennessee all their life. To be honest I can get Nanci Griffith and EmmyLou Harris CDs if I want to listen to this done well, I don’t need wannabes.

Simple Kid surprised me. It was him, a guitar, some harmonicas and a Mac and it was great. I know nothing he’s released but he was engaging, had great tunes and was pretentious about anything he was doing. His favourite hobby seems to be poking fun at himself and writing fantastic songs.

He’s playing again soon I think(he plays London a bit apparently) so I’ll see if Alex and Shongah “Charlie” Manson want to come too.

Later days,
Halo.
