Bruce Air!!!!! This was fantastic. I’ll put up photos over Xmas I think I have them in my work file storage so I’ll pull them down and put them on Flickr.

Details 🙂 Well flight was at 9:30 in the morning from Gatwick. It wasn’t hard to find the check in queue to be honest 200 Iron Maiden fans are quite conspicuous 😀 So jumped in the queue got checked in and met on of the guys travelling Rich who was cool and we hung out for most of the trip. The flight was pretty uneventful except for the fact that all the announcements from the flight deck were made by Mr Bruce Dickinson, I got airplane food for the first time in about 5 years and we got a goodie bag; a Bruce Air laptop bag with stickers, pen, badge, baggage tag, sleeping mask and ear plugs all Bruce Air branded(except the ear plugs). The guys sitting beside me were a father and son who were not very talkative (I found out later they were Swedish and had flew to London to fly back to Sweden with Bruce, they didn’t get the return leg).

As we got off Bruce signed stuff and posed for pictures, I have a great one with him, he’s pretty short in the flesh. Once we’d grabbed our bags the buses were waiting and we whisked away to the hotel, which is connected to the venue Maiden were playing that night. Rich and I were near the front of the queue to get our hotel room but as we had both said we’d share a room with a random person we had to get out tell the organiser Steve we’d share and the get to the back of a 200 person long queue. That didn’t happen we found the hotel bar (which sold bottles of Bishops Finger) and we commenced drinking after 3 pints the queue had disappeared and we checked in.

Just in time to head over to the entrance where they were letting us in early so we could get up on stage and have a big group photo with Bruce taken. There were 3 groups and we actually ended up in the last one but we’d picked up some new friends in Mike, Derrick and Chinchilla and they all ended up in our photo and I got up the front posing on one of the monitors :-D. After our photo we got told we had 45mins to get food/whatever and be back at the First To The Barrier entrance so we could get in 30 mins before the rest of the crowd. Quick dash to the hotel and one hurriedly eaten McDonalds and we were standing in a light shower waiting for our door to be opened.

The Globe is a big Ice Hockey arena and they let about 250 of us in and we had it to ourselves so Rich, Mike, Derrick and I grabbed the limited edition Scandinavian tour shirt and then into the pit in front of the stage so we’d be up close and personal for the gig. This did mean we had to endure Trivium and for the 2 minutes before they started I was worried they’d impress me. Not a problem, they didn’t horrendous crap.

We waited patiently for Eddie and the boys to get onstage, we knew the setlist, some of us because we live on the internet but mostly because we had seen the setlist taped to the monitors earlier on when onstage. This isn’t a spoiler now as they will never play this set again but the set was the new album from start to finish in order rounded off with 5 classics(full setlist at the end). I’ll be honest I hadn’t 100% gotten into the album but it blew me away live. Bruce’s vocals are at the top of their game for the entire album and he pulled it off for the entire show and the rest of them were on top form and the crowd was immense. This was the third show in that venue alone and you couldn’t tell.

After the show we staggered back to the hotel bar again (wasn’t too far away :-D) and drank the night away till they kicked us out at some stage. We actually finished our drinks in the lobby before getting to bed.

Next day wasn’t much really. Got up grabbed breakfast, checked out, waited for hotel bar to open, went into bar, failed to get the cider we ordered(they were out), had a beer, got on bus to airport, checked in(took ages), just got through duty free and on to another flight with Mr Dickinson. We were a little delayed as we misplaced people at the hotel and then were missing 4 on the flight (only 2 got stranded we think the other 2 were Swedes who didn’t want to come back to the UK i.e. my travel partners on the first leg). We did eventually get to Gatwick and there I said adios to my companions Rich and Derrick. Derrick off to the wilds Canadia and Rich to somewhere in the UK. I may see Derrick again(we have semi plans) and Rich I should see at Iron Maiden in Earls Court and maybe at another gig in London.

So I made it, it was great and I’d do it again, I may even return to Sweden for a gig on my own back it was a nice setup but we’ll see anyway here’s the setlist and link to photos.
