From a Gig Review post:

Jeez it’s been over a week, getting on to two. Apologies for anyone who reads/cares it was a bloody busy week. To quickly sum up as mentioned in the last post I wouldn’t be free from work till Tuesday and combine that with Greenday Monday night and Megadeth Tuesday I din’t get a chance to do any ripping or posting. I then had work Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday all interspersed with Kerbdog Friday and Saturday. Kerbdog were “Rockin like Dokken” (does Dokken rhyme with Rockin?). Now for the long winded version.

Drinks Saturday with Sean was a laugh, good to see some of the heads again. Sunday in Sarah’s was quiet just chilling with her, was nice.

Greenday were impressive in the utmost. I saw them in the Ambassador(~1500 people) this summer but the gig in The Point (~9000 people) was humbling. I’ve seen them previously in The Point in 2001, I think, and it was the worst gig EVER. However with the news that American Idiot has (or is on the way to) outselling Dookie (12 million in 11 years, American Idiot rumoured to be 15 Million already) they performed like a mega-selling stadium act should. We got flames, fireworks, covers and men in bunny suits. They opened with American Idiot, Jesus Of Suburbia(all 9 minutes) and Holiday. The first three songs on the album, were we to be treated to the album played start to finish? Sadly not but the show just kept getting better with a liberal sprinkling of new (the previously mentioned tracks, Wake Me Up When Sept. Comes, Boulevard Of Broken Dreams) and the old (She, King For A Day, Good Riddance, Minority, Basket Case). They threw in three covers, the Greenday standard Knowledge (by Operation Ivy, recorded by Greenday on the Slappy EP), Queen’s We Are The Champions and Shout (by the Isley Brothers). A blinding set with the crowd being a good mix of old and young. Got a chance to see Greenday? Do it now you’ll regret it otherwise, they’ve already sold out the Milton Keynes bowl first day and a second is being organised.

Megadeth, what can you say? (Shut it Al) They were brilliant. For a man told he’d never play guitar again Mustaine was sure banging out the solos like a bitch. The support Diamondhead, all I say is Uh?!? who cares. Mustaine and the boys(pretty much hired goons) were tight as fuck and rattled through the Megadeth catalogue picking out the best and rocked the place. The new (Scorpion, Blackmail The Universe) fit in well with the classics (Peace Sells, Sweating Bullets, Symphony Of Destruction). A blistering set, you couldn’t have picked better yourself (besides certain views on Pyschotron not being on the setlist of a gig he wasn’t going to, eh Al?). I had to leg it just before the encore (Holy Wars….Punishment Due) for my last bus but a gig and a half even at that. A farewell tour apparently but he’ll be back to do some festivals over the summer.

It was Wednesday then, back to work. It sucked but met Sarah afterwards for a drink or two in The Porterhouse and that helped. Thursday was much the same, working till 9 so did nothing all day except pick up Paul D’ianno tickets for Al and I (have I told him yet, can’t remember). Chatted to Scobes in Sentinel about the Megadeth gig, Scavenger were meant to have the support but apparently Diamondhead were a better prospect. Have they heard either act? Muppets!!

Day Off Friday!!! Yay, mum was home too so helped with the shopping i.e. got stuff I want to eat/drink 🙂 Bought a desk in Argos as well for my room, put it together before heading out to see the mighty, I say mighty, Kerbdog with Ken.
What superlative could I not use to describe the two gigs from the newly reformed kilkenny outfit? (All comments made cover both gigs.) They did stuff from both albums as well as a B-Side. Highlights were Sally, J.J.’s Song, End Of Green, Severed, actually the entire set was a joy. The songs are heavy as fuck live. No Wilt stuff but Cormac has said they’re just on semi-hiatus so hopefully we’ll see them live soon as well. If you’re a fan of Kerbdog you won’t be disappointed, if you aren’t you will be after this gig. The support, Laminate, were pretty good too, grabbed their Demo, aint given it a spin yet though.

During the week I also stumbled on some very interesting information. All 6 Boomtown Rat’s CDs had been re-mastered and were to be reissued!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even better when I got into work to check the system the release was the 4th of Feb i.e. Friday just gone. So guess what? Yes I am now the proud possessor of their entire back catalogue. Just waiting for their Peel session to be released (Neon Heart from it is on A Tonic For The Troops).
They weren’t my only purchases this week though. Grabbed a T-Shirt at Greenday, a hoodie at Megadeth and a Scart to connect my DVD player to the TV in my room. I also picked up the DVD haul listed below along with the KsE album.

Saw Team America : World Police last night. Hmm is it a “Fuck Yeah!” or a “Fuck No!”? Neither, it was funny and stuff but not the cheese fest I was expecting (I like my cheese EXTRA heavy with a side order of cheese, I listen to 3 Inches Of Blood for god’s sake).

Speaking of cheesy spun two Symphony X albums in work, they might be worth an investment, good power metal, Manowar-esque but actually metal as opposed to just 80s Hard Rock. See if I can get some MP3s online to see if they’re what I want!

Link Of The Day:
Symphony X’s website if only cause there are a load of MP3s which I’m currently downloading.

Later Days,
Halo
