Gig Review – Arctic Monkeys, Kentish Town Forum, 24/08/06

Support: The Klaxons

A secret gig with only 2,000 tickets. As I said to Sarah I’ve seen bigger and better in smaller but that aint the point. It started kind of badly as the set up for getting ticket was designed to battle touts but also caused a massive(at least 2hr) queue to get your stuff. When we heard if you get your tickets after 7pm(and it looked like we were) you have to go straight in and be stuck in the venue we dropped out of and went to get some food and got back at 7:40 or so and were in by 8:15 so wasn’t too bad in the end.

To start, The Klaxons, as with Bring Me The Horizon with KsE, don’t bother with this lot. They were atrocious and even if they had any energy it was destroyed by the awful sound, and I do mean awful I don’t think I have heard as bad sound indoors since I arrived in London. So that’s them written off.

Arctic Monkeys however were on fire shooting through most of the album they were tight, the crowd was in the palm of their hand and everything just worked. Most songs were played straight but they used acapella intros to segue between a few songs which worked really well. The crowd were singing along with the only let up being two b-sides they played. Sound was immense, atmosphere was great, I think until they release their third album which will bomb(you know that’s what happens to flavour of the months)this will be the last time I see them. I aint going to see them in Wembley or the Point and it’ll be a while before they play a decent indoor venue. If you get a chance, see these guys if you don’t grab the album it is great.

  1. I think you are talking absolute rubbish !!!!!

I was there and the Klaxons was wicked you should watch this space for them, and now to the artic monkeys, their set was amazing and i think you are the only one not raving about the gig.

I think you should appreciate a good gig for what it is

  2. Ah come on, I think I know crap when I hear it I see enough support bands do be able to tell the wheat from the chaff and they were awful. Lets put that aside surely you must agree that sound was atrocious for them? I would be looking for heads to roll if I was them.

Actually I liked the Arctic Monkey’s set (I’m sure my review says that) and I do enjoy it for what it was, a good gig but not a world changing event gig. I’d seen better that week alone (Imperial Leisure in the Jazz Cafe). I only rave about gigs that deserve it and trust me when someone deserves praise for a live performance I’m the first to give it.
