Gig Review – Interpol, Alexandra Palace, 30th of November 2007

Blonde Redhead

Yes really I went to see Interpol, seriously, no joking. I have seen that overhyped indie wanktastic radio friendly unit shifters.

OK firstly Turlough (my brother) was over and wanted to go so he bought me a ticket and I went. Unsurprisingly I missed Blonde Redhead, I didn’t even want to be there for the headliners. This was my first time in Ally Pally and I’d heard it was pretty atrocious for sound, atmosphere et al but I was pleasantly surprised. Firstly it’s quite north London and you have to get on a free shuttle bus to get from Wood Green station to the venue and we ended up on a well plush double decker coach which took us up to the venue and it was pissing it down so we had to run into the venue.

It’s a spacious venue with lots of halls and junk and you need to buy tokens for the beer (I think we didn’t get any). So we wandered into the hall which has an ornate ceiling with a large furrow in the middle of the ceiling which would screw up the sound but it was covered by black sheets. So in the end the sound wasn’t too bad, when I say the sound I do mean the sound quality the actual noise being made on stage was horrendous. Do bands still play this boring muck, there was nothing and most songs were just single chords, even the antics of the drunk, trendy, "I’m out at a live musical event am I not cool" crowd didn’t keep me entertained.

Yeah so in conclusion Interpol suck and we headed home, Turlough seemed happy enough and was off ot see them in the RDS two days later, so suppose that was worth it. We had to get a shuttle bus back to the tube station and this time it was a crappy old double decker bus that looks like something Dublin bus would have retired 4 years ago but they had only retired it the year before. Seriously the bus we got on was ex-Dublin Bus property with an ad for the 2006 census on it. It had the crappy green trim and a small sign saying "Property of Dublin Bus" no signs in Irish left on the bus though.

Later days,
Halo.
