The Haunted

OK so I move out of Brixton and almost the next day I have my first ever gig in Brixton Academy, what are the odds eh? Great venue can’t wait to see Nine Inch Nails here(3 times).

So I like The Haunted (have their One Kill Wonder album) but only caught three songs and sound was quite muddy. They have a headline show in May, might go to that.

KSE were meant to play this two weeks ago but Howard and Adam were told to rest by doctors. Only Howard has recovered in time so there was no Adam D, depending on your view of him (musical genius or complete toss pot on stage) this was a good or bad thing but definitely this would be a different show to usual.

I was on the floor for this quite close to the front and had grabbed one of the tiny barriers dotted around the venue and boy did I need it. The crowd were what I call the stereotypical KSE crowd. This is the heaviest thing in their CD collection so moshing/pitting with no concept of how to do either is required. I can hold myself but I saw one or two people going in directions they didn’t really want to.

Other than the crowd the band were fantastic, almost as good as The Underworld show the played last summer. I only had the new album a week or so and didn’t know them too well but they were scattered among so much good old stuff it didn’t matter.

The highlight had to be their last song though, their cover of Dio’s Holy Diver, brilliant.

Hope I see ’em again, in a slightly smaller venue though.

Later days,
Halo.
