Boss Volante
Mark Greary

So one of the famous Frames New Year’s shows. I’ve never been to one and this was well anticipated. There was one problem though, we got there thinking we’d just catch The Frames or maybe one support act but oh no. You see I’ve heard that these things can go on till 3 in the morning. I was really impressed till I found out that’s because they don’t come on stage till 11:30!!! The FIRST support act didn’t get on till 9:30, I was so not happy. I had been hanging out with Al and The Raj with Sarah and I have had my fill of sub par support acts this year. Bullshit, doors were at 7pm some people were in side 2 and a half hours before any music started and 4 and half hours before the headliners, with Vicar St prices that aint a cheap night.

So support acts. Boss Volante are Graham Hopkins’ (ex-Therapy) new musical adventure. They were OK I suppose, the female bass player was cute and wearing a short skirt, score one for the feminists :-?. So they were Rock N Roll and quite good. Sarah liked them so if she buys the album I’ll give it a listen. Mark Greary was a different kettle of fish, he is known, by some, as Mark Dreary and this performance showed why. He was cack, I wouldn’t bother if I were you.

So half 11 and Glen marches on with the guys and the start the show. It was a standard Frames show, lots of great tunes from all periods and great interaction with the crowd. I took note of the Setlist but my Irish phone reset itself so I lost it (along with one or two others actually). It was fantastic, occasionally self indulgent, but thoroughly enjoyable, I’ll go see ’em again…. Oh wait I will they’re playing London in Feb :-D.

Later days,
Halo
