Ah the Barfly it’s been a while, actually over a year mostly due to their stupid policy of not having a box office and all sales have to be online :-?. Also last time here met Ian from the Raging Speedhorn board and lightning struck twice, himself and Gurdy were here. We met up for a pint or two beforehand in The Moon Under Water. Ian was chatting up Ives from Charger when I got there probably trying to get them to ingest some mushrooms like the last time he saw Charger in the Barfly.

We got in after Ghost … were meant to be done but they hadn’t even set up so we got subjected to them. Ives had been talking them up on the Charger board but I found them pretty boring. The vocalist looking like a cross between Olly Truant and Boris Johnson!

Things were running late and I was worried that the Charger set would be cut like the last time I saw them supporting My Ruin but no they got their full 5 song set and they flew through them 4 new and 1 old. Blinding I can’t wait till they get the new album Spill Your GUts out, it is all done and dusted, ready to go but they’re holding off till early next year. They say it has something to do with Xmas but seriously I can’t see their brand of aural assault being affected by normal market forces.

The Abominable Iron Sloth have recently become a three piece which also now means they can no longer be described as containing members of Will Haven. Neither of these things seemed to effect them they played a great set including Hats Made Of Veal And That New Car Scent, I Am The Carcass, Parasite Hilton And Other Flaws Inherent To Wealth (lyrics “Run Slut Run”) and a new vocal-less track and they never let up. This was heavy with a capital GROOVE. If you can see these guys they are the future here and now. This lot supporting Mastodon with Charger would be a dream lineup.

Gurdy was going to go see TAIS play the Kingston Peel next Saturday but I’ve persuaded her to go to Redhill to see Speedhorn instead and then we’ll go see TAIS in Redhill the next day instead, can’t wait.

Later days,
Halo.
