Gig Review – Johnny Truant – The Fly Bar – 03/10/06

Support:
Eighth Nerve
Muswell

This is my first gig since August, NOTHING went on in September. This is kind of because of work and holiday though. Missed Johnny Truant, Juliette Lewis, Breed77 and more because I wasn’t in London. Only really annoyed by missing Juliette Lewis as you can see I saw Johnny Truant anyway and Breed will be back (even if they did pull out of a Dublin date I happened to be home for).

Back to the gig this is about. Fly bar is a new venue run by the people who do the Barfly’s around the UK. The Barflys are generally small clubs with awesome sound and put on great rock shows well this place is smaller than any Barfly I’ve been in. Due to the last minuteness of the gig and the mid week date the place isn’t too full considering the last time I saw them was in The Underworld which was rammed. At least the audience hadn’t changed fricking emo-clone clowns, bloody kids…

So actually saw both support acts … that is all I can say they definitely aint going to set the world alight, hell not even a small village gagging for a rock show. I’ll probably see them again and I can’t wait.

Johnny Trunat eventually strut onstage at about 10pm. When I say stage I mean corner of the bar the gear is set up in, cosy. They play a very good set, sound is pretty rotten and crowd isn’t really into it (playing mid week can be a real curse in a place like London) but they soldier on. It is all off “In The Library..” not even “I’m the primitologist…” which is usually a standard but then the set is only 30mins. We disperse after the show, not their greatest moment but an OK sign off, now just to see can they get the 3rd album recorded and out quicker than the last.

Later days,
Halo.
