Sounds of the Underground at HMV Forum May 2006

Chimaira, Sounds of the Underground, Fri, 12 May 2006 12:18:01, HMV Forum, London, The Event on Last.fm.

From a Gig Review post:
Sounds Of The Underground feat.
Chimaira
Madball
Unearth
Terror
All That Remains
Manntis

Another new venue for me, quite nice in a grotty way but good sound, decent space. Looks like the Ambassador in Dublin but with even more space behind the sound deskd and a massive balcony, which you can access from the venue floor.
Now the other acts were a different story. Look I like some hardcore, I love Minor Threat and Inside Out. I even like the modern derivatives, I own Hatebreed CDs(not sure why) and Stampin’ Ground are one of the most impressive bands live and on CD but I this line up made me sick. I missed Manntis(a godsend in the end). I caught the end of All That Remains and appeared to miss very little. So I stood through half hour sets (at least) from the next three and I almost openly wept when they took down Unearth’s backdrop to not reveal the full Chimaira one (which you could see the edges for all the time) but one for Madball. I wouldn’t have minded if they’d been good oh but good christ they were all cack NYHC SUCK MY BALLS!!!!!
Chimaira saved my life and this show. The came on at half ten, I honestly though the show might have ended by then but apparently the Forum’s curfew is 11:30. They come on a recording for the intro for Implements Of Destruction a long ass instrumental that ends their genius Impossibility Of Reason album. But it’s not the intro to the song, well it is but they then kick into it and play the entire god damn thing, all 13 minutes of it. I was in heaven. The first time I saw them they opened with a shortened version but this was brilliant. The rest of the set was blinding track after blinding track, Power Trip, Nothing Remains, Comatose, Cleansation, The Dehumanizing Process. It was fucking brilliant and I was smiling from ear to ear by the end, wasn’t a long set and no encore but fuck me I’ll be back to see these guys ASAP(well they did end the set with “see you next year” so it could be a while).

Later Days,
Halo.
