Gig Review – Imperial Leisure, The Borderline, 26th of October 2007

Support:
Lazy Habits
Work In Progress

I’ve never actually been in The Borderline, which is unusual as I’ve been here almost two years. It is a nice small venue, good sound and well laid it (except for the stage being a bit near the door).

I got in just as Work In Progress was finishing, they seemed OK, pretty straight forward rock with a little bit of a groove, wouldn’t mind seeing them again. Grabbed a Newcastle Brown ale settling in to wait for IL (stage times were posted at the entrance so I knew when they should be on). Lazy Habits sort of shambled on to the stage and just started out of the blue with a human beatbox covering for a drummer who hadn’t quite got set up. As the set went on it became obvious the were a rap heavy Imperial Leisure but really good for it. Two main MCs and with no hiding of their accents and I was impressed. I will be going to see them again I think. They also kept the crowd happy and moving so picked up a few new fans.

When Imperial Leisure came on the place was pretty rammed and they were ready to skank the night away. Playing favourites like The Landlord’s Daughter and Great British Summertime along with the new one single In A Letter (rocks mit den socks). The crowd joined in with all songs with Man On The Street being a particularly great sing-a-long. The really question is how they have not been snapped up and signed? They gig regularly around the UK and London and have garnered a real following, signing them would be a no brainer they come with an audience. Their next chance is this single release on the 26th of November, if this gets raidoplay they will go stellar, but it won’t will it?

Later days,
Halo
