The Dawning Of The Black Summer

So Twitter is either a godsend or a bastard, all my posts for ages now have just been digests of my daily tweets. Actually it’s been quite good in my opinion, I probably wouldn’t post at all if it wasn’t for it :-/

I’ve been pretty busy with work and other more fun things, been to Istanbul, seen a few gigs, been home (twice) and even Sarah has been over here but I think the best thing of note was the Raging Speedhorn tour which deserves special mention. Details of it can be seen in my tweets from that period Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (yes that is a whole week) and that is just the Irish and Scottish dates afterwards I made it to the Cambridge and London dates. Cambridge was likely to be the last time I will ever see them live as their last UK date was on the 31st of October in Kettering. They still have the Japanese tour to go (and maybe a far flung one off date ;-))Â but as far as the UK is concerned you can congratulate yourself as you destroyed one of the genuinely exciting British bands of the last ten years. Even on this final tour there were tales of being screwed over by promoters, no money, venues being closed, the inability to spell (one venue was hosting Rageing Speedhorn, The Miramad Desaster and Take a Walk for a Worm Week instead of Raging Speedhorn, The Miramar Disaster and Take a Worm for a Walk Week). All in all a traged,y they now join the uncountable number of bands ground down by apathetic crowds and morons. This has been compounded by the fact Johnny Truant have gone down too. Ah well you can’t lose them all …

I also treated myself to a Nikon D80 :-D. I got a good deal and have built up a nice starter kit of :

  • AF-S Nikkor 18mm-135mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED lens
  • Sigma DG Macro 70mm-300mm f/4-5.6 lens
  • AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D
  • Sigma EF-500 DG ST flash gun (including extension leads)
  • Crumpler Muffin Top 4000 in Olive

I’m really happy with it just wish I had decent weather to play with it outside. It’s been manky here and I’m not 100% on what I’m doing. Hopefully I will do some training before Xmas which will give me a good grounding and then when home I can go mad. I also need a tripod maybe … Dear Santa …

The Camera should come in handy very soon though as I am off to Austin Texas for a week on Saturday and the the day after I get back I’m off to Lyon in France for another week. I should get some great photos and will be good practice. I will be blogging from Texas for work but on the GridCast blog but I’ll probably syndicate them here too just to keep all my warblings in one place. The photos will appear on my Flickr along with the few others I have posted recently.

Later days,
Halo.
