BioMechanical – Underworld – March 14th 2006

Biomechanical
Support:
CoExist
Needle Eye
Heroes Are The Enemies

I originally bought a ticket for this gig purely out of curiosity to see BioMech live. I’d heard good things about them and the one or two times I’d heard the album I liked it. However about a week later I couldn’t have cared if they were the biggest pile of shit in the world. The reason for this was CoExist had been named as main support. Anyone who knows me knows I love those cunts, been listening to them for over 3 years and have only seen them play once live as their tribute act Grind Dogs. They slay on record and I couldn’t wait to see them live.

Anyway in the end it was the support acts which really caught my ear. Heroes Are The Enemies were a female fronted metal band with definite death metal influences. They weree really good and the set was entertaining flawed only by the last track which sounded too like Shadows Fall’s “Doors Of Perception”. Needle Eye’s name didn’t sound familiar until they hit the stage with a computer for playing samples. They’ve played the UK with Brinskill Bomb Beat an Irish industrial act veering towards the goth end of that spectrum with a hot keyboard player (all of which is in the past tense as far as I know they’ve split). Anyway Needle Eye are also industrial but veering to the metal end like Fear Factory but with none of the bombast usually associated with industrial metal a la Rammstein.

CoExist, hmm what can I say? Will this review be bias? Probably but I’d like to think I’m telling the truth as well. Well the hit the stage flying and didn’t let up. There were about ten of us down the front when they started about 100 when they finished. They played (in no order or even complete list) I Am The Leper, Teeth Meet Fist, Urge To Mutilate, BlackMail and some new ones May Cause Seizures and Full Body Cast. They were animal new bass player AFAIK and a new replacement for Paul “The Cat” Catten. These guys alone made the £5 worth it.

Of course next were BioMech for some they are the saviours of British Metal(these people aint seen/heard Dragonforce). Well I was underwhelmed the singer seemed to be singing a tune that had nothing to do with what the instruments were playing. He was just performing vocal acrobats (and not stupendous ones) for no apparent reason. At first I gave them the benefit of the doubt, sound could’ve been dodgy but then they pulled out a cover of Pain Killer by Judas Priest and it was animal. These guys can play and he can sing, I almost bought the CD to see was I just missing something I skipped on that but I would be tempted to see them again if the price was right and I knew a track or two.

Later Days,
Halo.
