Head on a stick

I’ve just updated the WordPress code here and on the Alchemist Cafe so it’s a little bit more secure, allows you to tag posts and a whole plethora of little things I probably won’t notice. The tags have allowed me to tag each gig with the (important) bands that played a gig so you can click the band name at the top of the post and you will get all reviews of the gigs featuring that band I’ve reviewed. I also decided to enable the database back ups (actually forgot to on Alchemist Cafe, will do it now), which I just have to remember to do once a month (not actually an automatic option on the plugin, they have like hour, day and week). Then I just have to keep the other stuff (plugins, themes, images etc) backed up and I’ll be protected from Al screwing up ;-).

After doing that I’m thinking about getting SVN to update the WordPress code. An update is very straight forward with SVN, just have to type a few lines into the command line and it is all done automatically from the online repository. The only thing is that to do this from scratch i.e. with a new blog, is pish easy, just use SVN to install the blog initially so it is all set up and knows what to do from then on. An existing blog however requires a little bit more work I think involving moving old files around. I may give it a go at the weekend though I’ll be tracking stable versions not the trunk (even though I do like to play it dangerous sometimes). Just not sure how the database is transferred over but I assume that’s in the wp-config file, but sure I’ll find out.

Part of the reason for this is actually work related. The BOINC service needs updating (it is WAY behind) and once we do get updated to the latest version we’ll be using SVN or CVS to keep it up to date (it’ll probably be CVS). Although they are different it is good to have a grasp on them both for the old CV to be honest. Actually hopefully with the BOINC CVS Alex and I will be contributing to the new builds (I plan on trying to make it all standards compliant and then make that available to other BOINC users).

In rock related news I’ve gotten on the guestlist for the Will Haven/Miramar Disaster show tomorrow in Islington Academy. Gurdy will be there being a big Will Haven fan and I also have a plus one will have to rustle one up I suppose. Heaven & Hell at the weekend, woo hoo. Astrid is over for the weekend too, herself and her boyfriend are going to see Tottenham on Sunday so we’ll hang out Saturday afternoon.

Lately I’ve been mostly playing Wario: Master of Disguise on my DS. It’s fecking great craic, not very difficult but a great little platformer, it’ll keep me occupied till I get Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS) and Super Mario Galaxy (Wii). I’ve also had a bash on 42 All Time Classics and Prism: Light The Way both very good.

Link dump paragraph. Who said the British education system was going downhill? Also I’m a gig and this is cool. I generally hate "funny" t-shirts but t-shirt hell actually has some cool ones, this one particularly made me laugh.

Later days,
Halo
