Gig Review – Imperial Lerisure, Metro, Oxford St, 17th of January 2008

Support:
Little Trophy
Rosie Oddie and The Odd Squad

First gig of the year, Imperial leisure were meant to be my last gig of the year, the night before I flew home for Xmas but I just didn’t bother.

This was another gig organised by Org records who released Imperial Leisure’s single "In a letter" and I caught the last song of the first vand Little Trophy who do the "screamy then quiet" thing but won’t cast judgment as it was only one song.

Rosie Oddie (the 21 year old daughter of Bill Oddie) and The Odd Squad were actually quite good. Singer/songwriter stuff but with a little groove and some catchy and (genuinely) odd tunes, will be checking them out in the future. Pity their fans who came along (OK one in particular) were a pack of cunts. Fine jump around, enjoy the music but please don’t spazz out like you’re at some hardcore gig and bump in to people actually trying to watch the show.

Imperial Leisure came on, laid waste and left. This is the second time I’ve seen them in the Metro and it was a bit more packed this time (will I have to buy tickets for their shows in advance now?) seemingly since the radio play they got with the single. This is good to see, pity the asshole quotient has now increased though. This was another barnstorming performance from the guys, it’d be nice to get a full length from them and some new tunes but they do apparently have a new single out in March (Man On The Street?). Off to try and track down physical copies of their EPs I don’t have.

Photos here.

Later days,
Halo.
